WWE News: Ember Moon injured, will be requiring surgery

When will The War Goddess return to Raw?
When will The War Goddess return to Raw?

What's the story?

Ember Moon was unable to participate in the qualifying matches for the Elimination Chamber due to an injury that was announced on Monday Night Raw.

More information has come out since the show ended and the injury Moon sustained will require immediate surgery.

In case you didn't know

Moon has had a few arm injuries since coming to WWE including in a storyline with Asuka that caused her to miss the NXT Women's Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in 2017.

Her second "injury" was a work for her storyline with Shayna Baszler at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia and would be part of the story of her performance in the Women's Royal Rumble last year.

The heart of the matter

Moon said that her elbow required immediate surgery and that her timetable for a return was currently unknown. She ended the interview saying she would see everyone soon and that she was trying to stay positive despite the bad news.

What's next?

Depending on the severity of the injury Moon suffered, her timetable for recovery could keep her out of action past WrestleMania and possibly until around SummerSlam.

Some elbow injuries can be fixed with rest and immobilization, but elbow injuries that require surgery usually require an extensive amount of rehab according to Medstar Sports Medicine.

Most elbow injuries also occur from overuse, which is typical given the schedule professional wrestlers and other athletes have.

However, the most interesting aspect of Moon's injury is how it reflects on her Royal Rumble performance.

Moon had one of the longest runs in the Rumble match, but made no eliminations. The former NXT Champion also scored no eliminations in her rumble debut last year, but was in the match for less than 10 minutes.

The plan may have been for Moon to have a few eliminations before her own elimination, but that is pure speculation.
