WWE News: Emma sidelined by back injury, surgery

Emma came up to the main roster most recently as part of the heel team for a 10-Diva tag match at WrestleMania 32.

It seems the injury bug has not quite been worked out of the WWE locker room, with Emma being the most recent victim.

The recent call-up from NXT suffered a back injury at a recent Live Event, according to a release posted to the WWE website.

“Emma has a ruptured disc that will require her to have surgery,” WWE doctor Chris Robinson said in the release. “She came to us in a great deal of pain, which seemed to be increasing. She was then given an M.R.I., which revealed that further action would need to be taken.”

Due to the nature of the injury, the length of her absence isn’t known at this time.

The injury comes just days after it was confirmed that Naomi has also been out with an injury. Emma and partner Dana Brooke had been viewed as filling something of the same role as Naomi and Tamina Snuka, a heel team attacking top faces like Becky Lynch. Emma’s main roster move to join the 10-Diva tag match at WrestleMania 32 and nearly immediate feud with Lynch also led to speculation about a push for the Australian superstar.

That and any work for Dana Brooke is in question now, obviously.

Fellow women’s performer Summer Rae, who was also on Emma’s team at WrestleMania, reacted to the news of the injury on Twitter.
