WWE News: Enzo Amore vs. Cedric Alexander announced for Monday Night Raw
What’s the Story?
WWE announced via Twitter that Enzo Amore will defend the Cruiserweight Championship against Cedric Alexander on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
In Case You Didn’t Know
The Cruiserweight match between Alexander and Amore was announced for the New Year’s Day edition of Raw, but the match was cancelled after the Cruiserweight Champion checked himself into a hospital after a bout with the flu.
The Heart of the Matter
This match will mark the first Cruiserweight Championship defence of 2018 and many fans are speculating who will emerge victorious.
Many fans are in support of Alexander becoming the new Cruiserweight Champion and are still hoping to see some of the incredible matches he had during the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016.
On the other hand, Amore is advertised to be defending the Cruiserweight Championship against Kalisto for the upcoming 205 Live tour. The match line up for house shows are always subject to change, but the inclusion of Nia Jax working in a special guest referee capacity could mean that Amore could retain the championship in tonight’s contest.
This championship match was originally expected to take place in 2017 and a match between Drew Gulak and Rich Swann was expected to determine the new No.1 Contender, but Swann was suspended.
Alexander would take Swann’s place in the No.1 Contender’s match by defeating Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari and Mustafa Ali on the December 11, 2017, episode of Raw and went on to defeat Gulak in the following week to become the No.1 Contender.
What’s Next?
Tune in tomorrow to see Queen City’s Favorite Son go one-on-one with the Certified G for the Cruiserweight Championship.
Author’s Take
Alexander has all the momentum heading into the first Cruiserweight Championship match of 2018, but don’t be surprised if Amore has a trick or two up his sleeve.
