WWE News: Fatal five-way title match announced for WWE Fastlane
SmackDown Live this week kicked off with the match between Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin for a spot in the WWE Championship match at Fastlane, which was a triple threat match at the beginning of proceedings tonight.
Corbin was unable to make it to the ring for the match since he was attacked backstage by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn before they headed out to the ring to attack Dolph Ziggler.
A brawl then ensued before it was later announced by SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon, that despite being badly banged up Ziggler would face Zayn and Corbin would face Owens in two separate matches later in the night. The stipulation was that if Ziggler and Corbin won their matches then they would be added to the triple threat match for the WWE Championship at Fastlane and it would be turned it into a fatal five-way.
Corbin was able to win his match with Owens after he countered the Popup Powerbomb into the End Of Days. Owens then told Zayn backstage that he was counting on him to get past Ziggler so that they didn't have bigger odds stacked against them at Fastlane.
Ziggler stepped up to take on Sami Zayn and after a number of close falls including a close two count from the ZigZag, Ziggler picked up the win after Zayn went for the Helluva kick and instead received a superkick.
AJ Styles wasn't even on SmackDown Live this week, but he will now defend his WWE Championship against four other men. The match has officially been made into a fatal five-way that will see Styles defend against Zayn, Owens, Ziggler and Corbin in less than a month's time at WWE's final pay-per-view stop before WrestleMania, Fastlane.
