WWE News: Father of Warrior Award Winner arrested
What's the story?
J.J. Robertson has been an inspiration to many. The double liver transplant survivor has captured the hearts of NFL and WWE fans across the globe and was even awarded the Warrior Award at the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame. Sadly, though, 2019 has started off rough for him.
In case you didn't know...
J.J.'s father Jordy Robertson started a nonprofit organization called "It Takes Lives to Save Lives" a few years back, hoping to earn money for J.J.'s surgery. Since then, the charity has been a beacon of hope for many. In an interview with L'Observateur, both father and son expressed how much it meant to spread that hope to those who desperately need it.
However, it seems that Jordy was not entirely up front with the use of the funds.
The heart of the matter
Jordy Robertson was arrested this past Thursday night on conspiracy to distribute cocaine, witness retaliation, and wire fraud. These charges came about after the raid of his home and the center for It Takes Lives to Save Lives back in October.
However, WDSU is reporting that Mr. Robertson also mishandled funds received for the nonprofit. According to federal court documents, approximately $49,297.91 were withdrawn from a GoFundMe account, where he blew the money at casinos, gas stations, and other retail establishments. The report also revealed that the family didn't deal with any significant medical expenses related to J.J. Robertson's transplant.
What's next?
J.J. Robertson has reportedly been living with his mother, Patricia Hoyal, and had nothing to do with what happened with the DEA bust. Hoyal claimed that J.J. has been severely hurt by this.
It's a sad state of affairs to see something that spread such a positive message be used in such a terrible way. However, J.J. can still do what he can to spread awareness and make sure more people sign up to be organ donors.
