WWE News: Finn Balor says UK fans deserve their own pay-per-view
What's the story?
WWE Superstar Finn Balor, who has embarked on WWE's recent tour of Europe, has told Sky Sports that he feels that British fans deserve to have the first pay-per-view held outside of North America since Summerslam in 1992.
In case you didn't know...
The WWE has embarked on a European tour, visiting Spain, Portugal, England, Germany and Scotland and venues like Wembley and Manchester Arena.
During the tour, it held tapings of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown LIVE which included a historic WWE Title change, the first one to ever take place outside of North America.
The heart of the matter
So if a title can change hands for the first time ever outside of North America, why can't pay-per-views happen in the UK? That's the question that Finn Balor addressed during his interview with Sky Sports, and he was all for the idea saying:
I love the idea of doing international pay-per-views and I don't see why we should be anchored, so to speak, to the United States...The fans here deserve a pay-per-view in the United Kingdom. They haven't had one since 1992 and that one went down as one of the greatest pay-per-views in WWE history.
Balor goes on to add that he feels that the reception he received when NXT toured England is proof that any pay-per-view that takes place in the UK is sure to be in front of a hot crowd.
As an Englishman myself, who attended the NXT show in Cardiff, and the WWE LIVE show in Birmingham this week, I can certainly vouch for a British crowd as well. Balor added the following:
"The crowds were some of the best crowds I've ever performed in front of on that tour - we did a TakeOver at Wembley against (Samoa) Joe. That night was probably one of the highlights of my career. I was coming home in a sense and it was the first big show I'd done in London."
What's next?
There's been talk of a pay-per-view in the UK for years now and every time there's a European tour the subject gets brought up and everyone says it'll be a great idea. I would love it if one of the 'big four' shows took place in the UK, but the dream is obviously Wrestlemania.
Still, several pay-per-view venues for next year have yet to be announced, but it won't be one of the 'big four' with Survivor Series happening very soon, with Wrestlemania 34, The Royal Rumble and Summerslam all booked in.
Author's take
I would absolutely lose my mind if the WWE announce a Wrestlemania in the UK in my lifetime, sadly I think it's unlikely to ever happen, but honestly, I promise it'll be one of the best 'Manias ever.
