WWE News: Former Divas Champion joining the cast of 'Dancing With The Stars'
What's the story?
Ever since saying "yes" to John Cena's marriage proposal at WrestleMania 33, Nikki Bella hasn't been seen much on WWE television. Although the longest reigning Divas Champion has expressed her desire to enter the ring once again, Nikki has announced that she's taking even more time off to jump at an opportunity in a field she's also used to - reality television.
In case you didn't know...
Total Divas has been a part of the E! Network's lineup since 2013, and Nikki - along with her twin sister Brie - have been a major part of it. So much so that the network gave the sisters their own spin-off program - Total Bellas. This has helped put Nikki into that exclusive group of WWE Superstars that have also become household names outside of WWE.
The heart of the matter
Much like her fellow WWE Superstar Chris Jericho, Nikki Bella is about to join the cast of ABC's Dancing With the Stars. In fact, Nikki made the announcement herself on her Instagram account:
Nikki, along with all the other competitors, were announced on ABC's Good Morning America. She'll be competing along with former NFL star Terrell Owens, Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz, and 80s teen pop sensation (and this writer's pre-teen crush) Debbie Gibson.
What's next?
Like a lot of reality shows - such as John Cena's American Grit - Dancing With The Stars is a competition show that airs live on a regular basis during the season. Which means that you won't see Nikki on Raw or Smackdown until either she's eliminated from the show or she wins.
Author's take
Considering Nikki hasn't been a part of WWE storylines since her last appearance at WrestleMania, she's got plenty of time to work on outside-the-company projects like this. As much as I'm a die hard wrestling fan, and have been since I was a kid... I'm kinda rooting for Debbie Gibson. Not only did she star in some crazy monster b-movies on the Syfy Channel but she also did a song with punk legends the Circle Jerks.
