WWE News: Former World Champion wants one last match against Brock Lesnar
What's the story?
Rey Mysterio may be out with an injury right now, but in a recent interview, the former World Champion claimed that he is still open for one last match against Brock Lesnar after a number of interesting bouts in the early 2000s.
In case you didn't know...
Mysterio has had a lengthy career in the wrestling ring and only made his return to WWE back at The Royal Rumble in 2018. Mysterio has since been able to capture the United States Championship but was forced to relinquish the title when it was revealed that his shoulder injury required surgery.
The former World Champion suffered a torn AC in his shoulder but is expected to make his return to the ring in the coming weeks so that he can go back after the Championship he never lost in the build-up to SummerSlam.
The heart of the matter
Rey Mysterio and Brock Lesnar had quite the back and forth over back in 2003 and according to a recent interview with WrestlingInc, it appears that Mysterio would be happy to step back in the ring with The Beast one more time before he retires. [H/T WrestlingInc]
"Why not? I hit it off with Brock early in his career. Every now and then people will post on social media some of the matches we had, and we were doing some crazy things for that time. This was 2003, maybe? What you were seeing was unbelievable so I wouldn't mind going back into the ring with Brock."
What's next?
Rey Mysterio is reportedly targetting July 8th episode of Monday Night Raw for his return whilst Brock Lesnar isn't expected to be part of WWE TV for a while as he ponders who to cash his Money in the Bank contract in on.
