WWE News: Former writer feels WWE made a mistake by taking title off Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal held the WWE Title for a total of 170 days

Jinder Mahal held the WWE Title for a total of 170 days

What’s the story?

Former WWE writer Vince Russo recently gave his take on Jinder Mahal losing his WWE Title recently to AJ Styles. Russo believes that despite Mahal having a reign of six months with the WWE Title, the company will now demote him back to the mid-card, now that he has dropped the belt.

In case you didn’t know…

Jinder Mahal won the WWE Title earlier this year, beating “The Viper” Randy Orton in a match at the Backlash pay-per-view.

Jinder would go on to have a title reign of 170 days while defeating the likes of Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura. However, on this past episode of Smackdown Live, Mahal would go on to lose the title to AJ Styles.

Styles and Mahal were part of the main event on this week’s Smackdown which took place in Manchester, UK and “The Phenomenal One” would defeat “The Maharaja” via the Phenomenal Forearm to become a two time WWE Champion.

The heart of the matter

Vince Russo recently said that he wasn’t happy with WWE taking their top championship off Jinder Mahal, right before Survivor Series.

Russo thinks that he can’t wrap his head around the fact that why WWE would put the WWE Title around Jinder Mahal for six months, and then would decide to take it off without really raising his stock.

Russo thinks that WWE made a poor choice by taking the title off Mahal right before Survivor Series, whereas they had the chance to solidify “The Maharaja’s” place as a true main-eventer. Russo also added by saying that it is likely that Mahal will now go back to being a mid-carder, which he was prior to his WWE Championship run.

What’s next?

As for Jinder Mahal, his next target will be to arrive in India, in December and take on Kevin Owens, when WWE Live takes over the city of Delhi on December 8th and 9th.

Mahal was originally scheduled to defend his WWE Title in India against Kevin Owens before losing it to Styles this week. However, there has been a lot of speculation regarding Jinder Mahal winning his title back before the India tour and thus arriving in India as a two time WWE World Champion.

Author’s take

I personally, agree with Vince Russo regarding the fact that Mahal will now go back to the mid-card, but, I do think it was the right choice by WWE to take the championship off Mahal and putting it on a marquee name like AJ Styles.
