What’s the story?

In a recent interview with The New York Post, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg weighed in his thoughts on Asuka’s undefeated streak in the WWE finally coming to an end at WrestleMania 34.

In case you didn’t know…

At WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, 'The Queen' Charlotte Flair, successfully defended her SmackDown Live Women’s Championship against 'The Empress of Tomorrow' Asuka, in what was her WrestleMania debut.

Following Flair’s win over Asuka at ‘Mania 34, ‘The Queen’ also became the first ever Superstar in the WWE to successfully defeat the Japanese sensation, who eventually tapped out to the Figure 8 and lost a match in the WWE for the very first time in 914 days.

The heart of the matter

Former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg is a Superstar who is somewhat familiar to undefeated streaks and while speaking with The New York Post, the recently inducted WWE Hall of Famer noted that seeing Asuka lose her streak at WrestleMania 34 was really hard to witness. (H/T: Still Real To Us)

In addition, however, Goldberg did claim that it was really an amazing accomplishment for Asuka on her behalf and it was truly unbelievable to see her continue her hot undefeated streak for a total of an astonishing 914 days.

“It’s a really cool accomplishment. It’s unbelievable, but there comes a time when you kind of question its tenure and when is it the right time to break it. Who is the right person to break it? I think it was done properly. I do. I think the pressure has been taken off of her. There was a lot of pressure on me at the end of the streak.”

What’s next?

As noted, on this week’s edition of Smackdown Live, Asuka finally joined the Smackdown Live roster as part of the Superstar Shake-up and judging by her actions from this week’s episode of SD Live, it now seems like WWE is currently heading towards a potential Six-woman tag team match between The IIconics and Carmella vs Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka.

Author’s Take

Personally, I was really hoping to see Asuka extend her streak on the main roster and eventually capture the Women’s Title from either brand on the main roster as well. However, as of right now, all we could hope for is that WWE books Asuka with perfection despite her streak coming to an end.
