WWE News: Goldberg has not ruled out another match

Could we see Goldberg put over Roman Reigns as they build to WrestleMania 34?

What’s the story?

Following his title loss at WrestleMania 33, Goldberg bid the fans farewell after Monday Night Raw went off the air. However, the feeling backstage is that the door has not been shut for Goldberg to come back and wrestle again in the future.

In case you didn’t know...

Goldberg's first run with the WWE began in 2003 and saw him defeat several superstars such as The Rock, Triple H, and Brock Lesnar. He left after his match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20 and didn't return to professional wrestling until 2016. Goldberg defeated Lesnar at Survivor Series in record time and went on to defeat Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship.

His reign ended at 28 days when Lesnar defeated him after 10 German Suplexes and an F-5.

The heart of the matter

Dave Meltzer claimed that Goldberg’s contract with the WWE ended this week, but that might not be the last we see of the WCW Legend. Meltzer went on to say that despite fan criticism, the feeling backstage was that Goldberg’s run was a success and that the door was still open for Goldberg to have matches in the future.

What’s next?

Meltzer also commented that it would have to be the right paycheck and the right opponent to get Goldberg to wrestle again.

The WWE likes to bring out part-timers to help boost their ratings and viewership. So if a deal is reached, expect to see Goldberg wrestle at one of the Big 4 Pay-Per-Views either this year or next year. Reigns vs. Goldberg in a battle of spears? A big possibility we say.

Author’s take

Goldberg’s match against Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 was short and sweet but very effective. With nothing but finishers and a couple of suplexes, Lesnar and Goldberg managed to entertain the fans in attendance and at home. Despite the success of the match, the WWE should end on a high note and not bring Goldberg back.

While a lot of his run was enjoyable, a great portion of his time in the WWE was spent making other wrestlers look weak like Kevin Owens and Rusev. If he comes back and does more of his quick matches with full-time performers, then fans will probably have a stronger backlash than they had this year.

Goldberg was one of Lesnar’s biggest rivals. And with Lesnar on top as the Universal Champion, this would be an excellent way to end their feud and Goldberg’s career.
