WWE News: Goldberg uses the word belt instead of title, talks relationship with Vince McMahon and more
What’s the Story?
Universal Champion Goldberg joined Edge and Christian on the debut episode of the E&C Pod of Awesomeness. During the podcast, Edge, Christian, and Goldberg discussed a variety of topics including the different words the company prefers to be used, his relationship with Vince McMahon, and the differences he has noticed in the locker room from his time during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era.
In case you didn’t know....
Goldberg was originally involved with the WWE exclusively for the WWE 2K17 video game but was signed for a one-time match at Survivor Series against Brock Lesnar. After his victory at Survivor Series, it was revealed that Goldberg had signed a new deal to wrestle until WrestleMania 33.
Cage Side Seats also reported that the WWE was open to signing Goldberg to more dates and that his current schedule of two TV appearances and a pay-per-view match would likely be the schedule for any shows going forward.

The Heart of the Matter
Goldberg discussed the differences between the WWE locker room from 2003 to 2017 and said one of the things that stood out was the company’s fixation on using certain words and the ones that are banned from usage.
"I took the belt, pardon me. I took the title, the [WWE] Universal title. Yeah, I forgot a lot of things in 13 years. There's a list of words, man. I didn't make it up."
Goldberg discussed the differences in his glory days compared to now by saying there was a noticeable absence in larger than life characters.
“It just seems to me that it's just different, man. You don't have the big characters that you did back in the day. I mean, you do, but I don't know. It's hard to explain the landscape right now. It's just completely different from when we were there.”
Goldberg also discussed his relationship with Vince McMahon and said he would’ve liked that bond in his first WWE run as his first outing was a polar opposite.
“I can sit down and I can have a conversation with Vince McMahon and we can look each other in the eye and we can speak on different terms, I believe. It's a relationship that I wish I would have had the first time. And I don't know because we're both older. I don't know, man. I can just tell you that it's completely different, guys.”
What’s next?
Tune into Monday Night Raw next week to see Goldberg and Lesnar have a confrontation one more time before their big championship match at WrestleMania.
Author’s take
Based on Goldberg’s comments, he seems to enjoy his current run a lot more now than he did previously. Many fans had huge criticisms of the WWE’s booking of Goldberg in his first run and point specifically to the Elimination Chamber match from 2003 when Triple H beat him with one sledgehammer shot after Goldberg cleaned house.
However, the fans have turned their criticisms to Goldberg and are disapproving of his quick matches, limited TV appearances, and his potential main event at WrestleMania.
Despite this controversy, Goldberg seems to be enjoying himself and this could be a big factor in whether he hangs it up for good after he faces Lesnar or whether or not he’ll stick around for a few more matches.
