WWE News: Harley Race is in ill health

The legend has suffered many medical issues recently

Harley Race suffered from Polio as a kid and went on to become one of the greatest legends to ever step into a ring. Thereafter, he was diagnosed with Cancer but still came out on top. However, at the age of 73, it seems like age is finally catching up with him.

As are the years he spent entertaining millions inside the ring, taking bone crushing bumps. The former multiple time NWA World Champion is currently in ill health and has been placed in a nursing home by his family. We at Sportskeeda Wrestling News wish the legendary champion a speedy recovery indeed!

Harley Race’s health has been failing in recent times, and he has had several other health scares in the past. Known as one of the toughest men in professional wrestling, and one of the two men that even Andre The Giant was scared of (the other being Meng), Race was a victim of several car crashes over the years.

While he survived each one of them, they all took a toll on the man. In recent times, he was a lot less mobile than before, often having to resort to a wheelchair to get around. While his wife and family have always been at his side to take care of the legend, he was moved to a hospital when his failing health became too much even for them to handle.

Harley Race and Ric Flair main evented the first Starrcade in 83

Harley Race is known as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. The current United States Championship (now held by Roman Reigns), was first held by the legendary Race. In addition to this, Harley Race held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship a sum total of seven times and is an inductee not only into the WWE Hall of Fame but also the NWA Hall of Fame, the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.

Because he was a man not averse to taking bumps inside the ring, Race has suffered from many surgeries over time including hip replacements, knee replacements and surgery to his neck.

Arch rivals in recent times

Those who regularly listen to Ric Flair’s podcast know that he likes to give regular health updates on his close friend and perhaps, greatest rival. We hope Race gets back on track soon!
