Since the Superstar Shakeup, the Raw Women’s Division has been somewhat revitalised. Charlotte left the flagship show to head to Smackdown, but Alexa Bliss and Mickie James made their way to Raw.
Alexa Bliss became the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship a few weeks ago when she won a Fatal Four-Way match, defeating Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, and Mickie James.
Last week on Raw, Alexa walked out of a match with Sasha Banks, stating that she had an important match at Payback to prepare for.
Alexa Bliss became the new Raw Women’s Champion last night when she defeated Bayley at the Payback pay-per-view in front of Bayley’s hometown crowd.
The heart of the matter
Mike Rome broke the news on WWE’s Twitter account that there has been a Tag Team Match on the card for Raw tonight. The match will see the new Raw Women’s Champion, Alexa Bliss, team up with Nia Jax. They will take on two former Raw Women’s Champions who also happen to be best friends, Bayley and Sasha Banks.
What’s next?
The four staples of the Raw Women’s Division will collide in Tag Team action tonight on Raw.
Author’s take
This is a logical progression of the Women’s Division, coming out the Payback event last night. One would think that the effects of the match last night between Bayley and Alexa Bliss will play into the match tonight, as Bayley took several significant shots to the head.
Bayley being the reason for her team losing the match would add more fuel to the fire of Sasha supposedly turning on Bayley sooner than later. That’s what should happen from a logical standpoint.
That’s not likely to be what does happen, however. WWE are supposedly geared towards the idea of Sasha vs. Bayley around SummerSlam, and they’ll probably continue to drag out the thought of Sasha turning on Bayley until closer to SummerSlam.
I imagine that the match becomes too much for the new Raw Women’s Champion at some point and she ends up leaving Nia Jax to try and fend off Bayley and Banks by herself. This will probably set up a multi-woman match at the next Raw exclusive pay-per-view. It seems like the Raw writers have just shuffled Alexa Bliss into Charlotte’s spot.
