WWE News: Injured referee receives treatment for injuries from the Big Show-Braun Strowman match
What’s the story?
Referee John Cone received urgent medical attention following the main event on Raw when he flew out of the ring as it collapsed in a heap during the course of the match. It is unclear at this time if his injury is a work or shoot.
In case you didn't know...
Braun Strowman took out Roman Reigns last week on Raw and continued his reign of terror this week as well, taking out The Golden Truth and Kalisto, before he was challenged to a main-event match by The Big Show.
During the course of the match, the ring wasn’t reinforced like it had been during their previous encounter, and for only the third time in history, the ring broke during the actual match. An injured John Cone flew out of the ring.
The heart of the matter
In the WWE exclusive video you can see above, we saw an injured John Cone nursing his injured shoulder. Befuddled and confused, he was asked what he saw when the ring collapsed.
Cone was unable to recollect the details, saying he remembers the two monsters going to the top rope and then tumbling out of the ring soon after. Soon after a trainer arrives to apply ice to John’s back and neck, thereby concluding the interview.
What’s next?
Braun Strowman has firmly been established as a dominant monster, after this battle of the goliaths. This video was just another device to get him over, and we're certain WWE will use more tools of this nature, to push him.
Author's take
To me at least, this looks like a complete work, and not a shoot. While Cone did fly out of the ring when it fell apart, I doubt that the injuries were really that severe. It's an effective device to get the audience invested, in any case. I look forward to seeing John Cone officiate many more matches soon.
