WWE News: Jake Roberts on his problem with Pat Patterson's creative and reaching out to Ric Flair

A stronger man

What’s the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Jake 'The Snake' Roberts was recently a guest on The Wrestling Estate, and spoke on a number of topics, including a problem he had with Pat Patterson's creative, and reaching out to Ric Flair over quitting drinking.

In case you didn’t know…

Jake Roberts had so many drug and alcohol issues for the majority of his life that many within the business saw him as a lost cause who didn't have long left to live.

WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page famously helped save his life, which was all documented in the 2015 documentary 'The Resurrection of Jake The Snake'.

Jake worked with the WWE creative team during the early 90's.

The heart of the matter

During his interview, Jake spoke on working closely with Pat Patterson and Vince McMahon and having one issue with Pat's creative.

Jake said, "When I was there, we had like six people who we'd sit down and go over things. Bottom line is it all goes through Vince, anyway, but you could talk to Vince. He would listen to a point. We got along well when I was booking with him, quite well. Pat was just a tremendous talent. The only problem I had with Pat was that he liked to go with comedy too much. I feel like if people wanted comedy, they'd watch a comedy show. This is wrestling, let's see some wrestling. But to each his own. You can't knock Vince too much because he's still rolling."

Jake also said he sent out a message to two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, offering The Nature Boy help with his addiction to alcohol, but he added that Flair didn't want any of his help.

What’s next?

Jake Roberts is continuing to work hard and keep on the straight and narrow. He still takes in plenty of appearances, with his next being at the Wrestlecon event in New Orleans during the WrestleMania weekend.

Author’s take

Jake "The Snake" Roberts was always one of the greatest minds in the history of WWE. It is such a shame that his issues got the better of him and he couldn't contribute more to WWE creative. It is such a shame that Ric Flair declined his help.
