WWE News: Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts feels that Roman Reigns should enjoy his ‘heel’ heat

The WWE has been unsuccessful in putting Roman Reigns across as a ‘face’ so far

What’s the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts recently appeared on The Roman Show where he advised Raw superstar Roman Reigns to enjoy the ‘heel’ heat he has been receiving over the past several months.

In case you didn’t know…

Just days after establishing his status as ‘the biggest dog in the yard’ by beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, Roman Reigns became the victim of a brutal assault from long-time rival Braun Strowman on the April 10, 2017, episode of Raw.

Even as the EMTs were strapping Reigns to a stretcher, Strowman returned to throw it down a flight of steps in the loading bay with ‘The Big Dog’ on it. ‘The Monster Among Men’ wasn’t finished as he came back one more time and tipped an entire ambulance with Roman apparently in it.

While this was clearly an attempt by the WWE to portray Braun as a ‘heel’ in the storyline, it backfired because the fans in the arena could be heard cheering him on as he destroyed Roman Reigns.

The heart of the matter

When asked for his opinion on how Roman Reigns should deal with the ‘heel’ heat he is getting from the WWE Universe, Jake Roberts said that he should enjoy what is going on. According to him, Reigns should let the people hate him as long as he is getting paid for it by the WWE.

This is what the 61-year old had to say about ‘The Guy’:

“Enjoy it! Why in God’s name would you try to change what the masses want? Let them hate just pay me while you are doing it. Pull hair eye gauge do what you have to do.”

The ire of the fans towards Roman has only increased in recent times, particularly due to his feud with iconic WWE superstar, The Undertaker. The fact that he became just the second wrestler after Brock Lesnar to defeat ‘The Phenom’ at WrestleMania has made matters worse for the 3-time world champion.

What next?

At the Payback pay-per-view which takes places on 30 April 2017, it is most likely that we will see Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman face off one last time to bring their ongoing feud to an end.

Author’s take

It is about time that the WWE realise that they are pushing too hard to establish Roman Reigns as a ‘babyface’. Instead, they should go with the flow and utilise the talented superstar in a ‘heel’ capacity as it may actually help him get rid of the hatred he is drawing from fans in real life.
