WWE News: Jeff Jarrett talks to NBC Sports about his WWE Hall of Fame announcement
What's the story?
As Sportskeeda reported earlier Monday morning, the NBC Sports announced that Jeff Jarrett is the latest inductee in the 2018 WWE Hall Of Fame class. Wrestling Inc. provided the transcript of an interview that Jarrett had with NBC Sports talking about his career and the induction itself.
In case you didn't know...
Jarrett has had two stints with the WWE (then WWF) from 1992 to 1996 and then from 1997 to 1999. His greatest accomplishment within the WWE was a total of six reigns with the WWF Intercontinental Championship.
The six reigns put him in a tie for third all-time with Rob Van Dam. Only The Miz (eight) and Chris Jericho (nine) have more reigns with the belt.
The heart of the matter
During the interview, Jarrett was asked if this was the right time to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. Take a look at what he had to say regarding the timing below:
"Quite frankly I've thought about that. Who am I? Why am I going in now? They asked and I had to do a head-scratcher because it was literally a shock. There are less than 200 wrestlers in the Hall of Fame and you think about the thousands of guys that have laced up the boots and I'm going to be one of those 200. It just doesn't seem right in my brain."
Though the timing is a shock for Jarrett, he did comment on being inducted on the same weekend that AJ Styles defends the WWE Championship in one of the main events at WrestleMania 34. Jarrett described the coincidence as "perfect" and that he cannot say enough about the guy.
TNA was founded by Jeff and Jerry Jarrett in 2002, and they signed AJ Styles to wrestle for them just months into the company's existence. Styles would become the first ever Triple Crown Champion, and later the first Grand Slam Champion. He would have a total of five world championship reigns with the company.
What's next?
Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for further news on Jeff Jarrett's induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame, as well as the rest of the class as they are announced. Most of the rumours that have been floating around have been spot on, and if they hold true, expect announcements for Bam Bam Bigelow and Kid Rock to come over the next few weeks.
Author's take
It is definitely a shock considering the past year Jarrett has had; which led to the end of his Global Force Wrestling partnership with Anthem and Impact Wrestling.
Though the timing of it all is a surprise, the fact that Double J is worthy of being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame does not draw an argument from me. He'll be forever known within the WWE as one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of all-time.
On top of that, his contributions outside the WWE with TNA, now Impact Wrestling, are not to be ignored either as the company is still rolling forward 16 years since its inception.
