WWE News: Jerry 'The King' Lawler will be on the pre and post shows of Payback
What’s the story?
On a recent edition of his podcast Dinner With The King, WWE Hall-of-Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler has revealed that he will be a part of the pre-show at WWE Payback this April 30th as well as the RAW Talk post-show that will follow the pay-per-view event.
In case you didn’t know...
Jerry O’Neil Lawler is one of the more popular wrestlers of his era and has served as a color commentator for the WWE since 2001.
Lawler has worked as a part of the broadcasting team on both the RAW and SmackDown brands, serving as the red brand’s commentator for 19 years and on the blue brand since 2015.
The heart of the matter:
Lawler was gradually phased out of the broadcasting role on SmackDown Live as well, with the addition of Tom Phillips and David Otunga to the Tuesday night flagship show. Nevertheless, with Otunga being currently drafted to RAW besides being busy with Hollywood, and Byron Saxton replacing the latter on SmackDown, Jerry Lawler hasn’t been seen in the blue brand’s commentary booth either for quite some time now.
‘The King’ recently addressed his fans that he will, indeed, be present at the RAW-brand exclusive Payback PPV later this month, as part of the broadcasting team on the pre-show as well as on RAW Talk that will be aired following the PPV.
What’s next?
WWE Payback takes place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on April 30th and features 4 championship fights including title matchups for the WWE tag-team titles, United States title, Cruiserweight championship as well as the RAW Women’s championship.
Author’s take:
Now, I know that Jerry Lawler has been criticised for his, at times, over-the-top style of commentary, but the man is a legend and regardless of whether or not he resumes full-time commentary for the WWE, it’s good to have the King back. Cue Jerry Lawler’s voice...”What!?!”
