What’s the story?

On a recent edition of Chris Jericho’s podcast Talk Is Jericho, Jim Cornette opened up on his past issues with WWE.

Additionally, Cornette also expounded on his recent encounter with Vince McMahon and return to the WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

Jim Cornette worked for the WWE from 1993-2005, besides also having served in other notable professional wrestling promotions such as his own Jim Crockett Promotions, Mid-South Wrestling, TNA, ROH and the sort.

Cornette has a highly-publicized fallout with the WWE, owing to his disagreements with management during his time as an executive at OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling)—a former developmental territory for WWE.

The heart of the matter

Jim Cornette revealed that his return to the WWE came to fruition a few months ago, as a representative from the company’s Talent Relations department called him up to see if he’s free to induct the Rock n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) into the Hall Of Fame—an offer that he accepted despite his past issues with WWE.

Besides, he added that most of his issues with the WWE stemmed from the time they allegedly strong-handed him when he managed OVW. Cornette claims that he and his group down at OVW were paying the bills and signing leases, which led him to believe that they were running a territory down there. However, the WWE would often pay them not to do business with people the higher-ups didn’t like.

Furthermore, Cornette insinuated that his old disagreements with WWE have now worn out, and although the WWE may not value its employees as much when they’re always present, workers who pop in and out sporadically are treated well as absence makes the heart grow fonder. He stated—

"It was great. Everybody treated me fantastic, and I didn't have a problem with any of the boys, or production people. I even saw Vince McMahon.”

“He said to me, 'Welcome home, Corny. I know you haven't always felt like it's your home.' I said, 'Well Vince, I never had words with you, but several people who worked immediately underneath you.'"

What’s next?

Jim Cornette recently appeared on an edition of the WWE show Table For 3.

Besides, he has also served for GFW/Impact Wrestling most recently, but parted ways with the promotion as his ongoing legal issues disallow him from travelling to Canada—a place where Impact is looking to shift base.

Author’s take

Jim Cornette’s fallout with the WWE back in the day wasn’t pretty by any means.

It’s great to see Cornette and the WWE higher-ups mend fences and move on with their respective lives while they’re at it.
