WWE News: Jim Ross calls Bray Wyatt WWE's biggest character babyface, talks AJ Styles' popularity

Bray Wyatt is loved by audiences despite his heel-like antics

The latest episode of The Ross Report saw WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross discuss the most recent WWE pay-per-view, TLC. On the show, Ross laid particular emphasis on the matches for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship and the WWE World Championship, showering praise on the performances of Bray Wyatt and AJ Styles.

About Wyatt, the iconic former WWE commentator claimed that he was perhaps the greatest character babyface in the business today. Ross compared him with the likes of Mankind, Dusty Rhodes and the Junkyard Dog, who were all popular character babyfaces.

“Bray Wyatt is potentially the biggest character babyface in WWE in years. Years. A character babyface. He's what Mankind was as a babyface. He's what Dusty Rhodes was in Florida. That's what a character babyface is. Junkyard Dog was a character babyface. He was unorthodox. He wasn't run-of-the-mill. He wasn't the type of cat you see in the neighborhood all the time.“

He also commented on The Wyatt Family as a whole and claimed that they could become huge character babyfaces down the line. According to him, using the Freebird Rule to wrestle for their tag team titles could do wonders for them.

Good Ol’ JR had this to say:

“Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, together, along with Luke Harper, who I think is underutilized, all three have the ability, with a little bit of tweaking and holding your mouth the right way, as granny would say, to be massive character babyfaces along the lines of being coarse and rough, rugged, kind of Attitude Era-like. So I think Orton and Bray Wyatt have a lot going for them, and, if they do the Freebird Rule, three-man team, that will give Luke Harper new life."

Speaking of the WWE World Championship match between AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose, Jim Ross noted that the fans are appreciating Styles even thought he was playing a ‘heel’ character. He claimed that the in-ring work of ‘The Phenomenal One’ made it tough for the WWE Universe to boo him.

“AJ's a babyface! The fans love his work. They respect what he does, so it's going to be hard for people to boo him unless he works his ass off to be this absolutely horrible, abhorrent personality. But then, when the bell rings, and you see what he does, with his athletic ability, get in awe of what he executes,” said Ross.
