WWE News: Jim Ross thinks Kurt Angle as RAW GM sets up his retirement match at WrestleMania 34.
What’s the story?
Jim Ross feels that the WWE’s move to appoint Kurt Angle as the new General Manager of Monday Night RAW will be extremely beneficial to the company.
Ross posts his views on various topics from time to time on his blog featured in his ‘J.R’s Family Bar-B-Q’ website and as per J.R.’s Blog, Angle is a “big get” for RAW.
In case you didn’t know...
Jim Ross aka good ‘ole JR is a veteran commentator and pro-wrestling industry insider who has worked with the WWE for a long time including stints in the famous Attitude era as well as the Ruthless Aggression era.
JR has reportedly signed a new 2-year deal with the company that was confirmed after his WrestleMania 33 appearance when he was specially roped in to call the match between The Undertaker and Roman Reigns.
The heart of the matter
Speaking on a multitude of topics ranging from Kurt Angle’s new role in WWE to The Undertaker, Ross alluded to the fact that the WWE could be looking to book Angle in a potential retirement match at WrestleMania 34 that takes place on April 8th in New Orleans, Louisiana next year. Here is what JR had to say:
“I think that it also sets in motion, if desired, for a retirement match with Kurt vs. some lucky talent would be a great attraction in NOLA for WM34.”
“Mark Calaway aka The Undertaker is what all pro wrestlers should aspire to be as he possesses the most valued trait that any talent can have, IMO, and that is.....reliability. Taker was the unofficial 'Captain" of the WWE locker room back in the day and his leadership and professionalism was a major reason for WWE's success in the pivotal Attitude Era of the company.”
What’s next?
After the recent firing of Mick Foley, Kurt Angle will now serve as the General Manager of Monday Night RAW. As of now, no reports of his possible involvement as an in-ring performer for WWE have been confirmed.
Author’s take
With Vince McMahon himself confirming that Stephanie McMahon and presumably Triple H as well would be out of action for some time, Angle is now the authority figure on Monday Night RAW. And if Jim Ross is to be believed, there is a good chance that WWE may use Angle as a performer leading up to a high-profile retirement match at next year’s WrestleMania.
Well, after the sheer awesomeness of WrestleMania 33, the WWE will be looking to pull out all the stops in order to outdo themselves at WrestleMania 34. Involving Kurt Angle against a younger prospect at next year’s Mania would most definitely be What’s Best For Business!!!!
