WWE News: Jim Ross to call WWE UK Shows
What’s the story?
Legendary WWE Commentator Jim Ross announced on his website jrbarbq.com that he will be working with Nigel McGuiness to broadcast the recently taped episodes of the new WWE United Kingdom show.
In case you didn’t know...
WWE launched a United Kingdom Championship Tournament earlier this year to crown the first WWE United Kingdom Champion. McGuiness and Michael Cole served as the commentary team for the event; an event that ended with Tyler Bate winning the championship.
The United Kingdom Championship has been defended on NXT since the tournament’s conclusion and will be defended at the next Takeover Special. Tyler Bate and Peter Dunne will compete in a rematch from the finals of the WWE UK Tournament and will face each other for the title at NXT Takeover: Chicago.
The heart of the matter
The new WWE UK show is said to air later on in May and will feature several wrestlers who participated in the tournament this past January. The following is the statement JR posted on his website, JRSBBQ.com, informing fans of the news.
“I’m excited to announce that I will join the talented Nigel McGuinness to broadcast the recently taped, WWE matches from Norwich, England and these bouts will air on the WWE Network soon. Happy for this opportunity to call bouts involving new wrestlers, for me, and a new broadcast partner which freshens up all facets of the process. Stay tuned as to when these specials will be broadcast on the WWE Network which is still the best value in the land for only $9.99 per month.”
This will mark JR’s second appearance on WWE programming since he returned to the commentary booth for the main event between Roman Reigns and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33.
What’s next?
While this was the only thing JR has announced, his post also claimed that the WWE has booked him for other things going forward and that he will provide the details once everything is squared away.
“WWE has other bookings for me as well and we will announce them when they are completely finalized. So, “Business is Picking Up!” I am happy to say.”
Author’s take
Hearing that JR is returning to the commentary booth for the WWE UK show is great news for fans of the Hall of Famer’s commentary as well as fans of the UK Tournament the WWE did earlier this month.
The intrigue of the new commentary duo of JR and McGuiness coupled with the interest in the UK tournament could help increase intrigue in the new WWE Network program. Hopefully, JR’s commentary won’t be tucked away on the network for too long.
