WWE News: Jinder Mahal could create history and break WWE records
What’s the story?
Jinder Mahal is set to create history and break a few important WWE records by surpassing some legendary performers as regards their respective reigns as WWE Champion.
On that note, Mahal has already bested the longevity of the WWE Championship reigns of a few notable Superstars including Chris Jericho, Ric Flair, Edge and Mankind.
Additionally, the Modern Day Maharaja, who defends his title against Shinsuke Nakamura at 'Hell In A Cell' next month, would surpass the reigns of the Undertaker, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle and The Rock—that is if Mahal holds the WWE Championship till the HIAC PPV on October 8th.
In case you didn’t know…
Jinder Mahal, whose real name is Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, performed on the WWE’s main roster from 2011 and parted ways with the company in ’14.
He returned to WWE with a low-fat, highly defined physique last year, and now holds the promotion’s most prestigious belt—the WWE Championship.
The heart of the matter:
Jinder Mahal won the WWE Championship off Randy Orton at the Backlash pay-per-view on May 21st and has held the title ever since, successfully defending it on multiple occasions.
The Indo-Canadian Superstar has bested the individual WWE Championship reigns of the following performers thus far—Chris Jericho (98 days), Ric Flair (77 days), Edge (76 days) and Mankind (26 days).
Furthermore, should Mahal hold the WWE Championship till Hell In A Cell, it would extend his reign till 139 days, and he’d have bested the records of the following WWE legends—The Undertaker (133 days), Eddie Guerrero (133 days), Kurt Angle (126 days) and The Rock (119 days).
What’s next?
Jinder Mahal is set to defend his WWE Championship against number-1 contender Shinsuke Nakamura at the upcoming SmackDown-brand exclusive PPV Hell In A Cell which goes down at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on October 8th.
Author’s take:
Jinder Mahal keeps changing the rules of the game. I mean let’s face it, not many can ascend to global superstardom without putting in the work; irrespective of the great push he’s received from WWE management as of late.
Mahal is steadily improving as a main-event star and I hope he continues proving his doubters wrong. Long live the Modern Day Maharaja!
