From the WWE Rumor Mill: John Cena and Roman Reigns dream match hyped by WWE

Is the WWE already making plans for this potential match? It sure seems like it!

What’s the story?

WWE promoted a video hyping up a potential match between John Cena and Roman Reigns based on their Twitter exchange this week.

Cena and Reigns tweeted each other regarding Cena working out at Georgia Tech and it's quite similar to an exchange they had previously.

In case you didn’t know...

Cena and Reigns entered a Twitter battle last year in December following a video of Reigns laughing while in one of Kevin Owens’ famous headlocks.

When Reigns was asked why he was smiling, he responded on Twitter by saying he made more money on past merchandise and was laughing at Owens bragging about his merchandise sales at the time.

The following day, Cena tweeted while working out at Georgia Tech and said he was earning the day while Reigns was mocking wrestlers for what they earn.

Reigns responded with a tweet referring to Cena as a “guest in his house” who had no idea what was going on.

The WWE also released a dream match video for WrestleMania 34 and claimed one of the things fans wanted to see at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ was a showdown between The Face That Runs The Place and The Guy.

The heart of the matter

The WWE promoted the match as something the fans strongly desired. However, there were a lot of fans sounding off on Twitter and YouTube, claiming that this is a match that the WWE wants, not the fans as a collective.

Many fans said that this match would likely be a never-ending finish fest with multiple Attitude Adjustments and Spears. Meanwhile, other fans have claimed this would be a great passing of the torch match between the two guys at the top of the WWE hierarchy.

What’s next?

Cena and Reigns have remained on separate shows since the brand split and it’s unlikely that either superstar will interact for quite some time. The only shows the two wrestlers are likely to interact on would be SummerSlam and Survivor Series; assuming Cena returns to the WWE before then.

Author’s Take

The decision of the WWE to focus on this Twitter interaction while none of this same attention was brought to their previous interaction seems interesting, to say the least. The WWE most likely didn’t want to bring attention to their two top stars talking trash to each other while no storyline was in the works, but that doesn’t mean that this match won’t happen.

The way the WWE have kept bringing this match up while not many fans have strongly desired it indicates that this match will happen eventually. It’s only a matter of time.

Tweet Speak

The WWE released their video about Cena and Reigns tweeting each other on Twitter and the fan reactions to the video are polarising, to say the least.
