WWE News: John Cena announced as 5th member of Team SmackDown

Here
Survivor Series just got a lot bigger

It looks like John Cena is going to be using his free agent status once again when he jumps over to represent the Blue Brand for Survivor Series. Today, Shane McMahon announced following a SmackDown from Manchester where Rusev couldn't secure the fifth spot on the men's Survivor Series team that he had made a decision about who would be filling in the final spot.

John Cena was initially rumoured to play the part of a special referee at Survivor Series and a supposed leaked poster seemed to validate those beliefs. But it looks like with AJ Styles picking up the WWE Championship on SmackDown, John Cena's services are no longer needed in the role of an officiant for the big Survivor Series champion vs champion encounter.

After all, AJ Styles was set to be on the Survivor Series team representing Team SmackDown. Now that he's in a much different role on the card it really opens things up. WWE obviously needed to change things around and they're doing it in a big way leading up to the big November pay-per-view event.

Therefore, John Cena will fill in as the fifth member of Team SmackDown for the big show. It's a role he's pretty good at because he's been a soul survivor before. It's also a great way to use his free agent status.

With Jinder Mahal no longer as champion, it also opens up the door as to who John Cena could be facing at WrestleMania seeing how "The Modern Day Maharaja" laid down a challenge for the title at the Show Of Shows. Therefore, we very well might be seeing something special happen at Survivor Series that will last until WrestleMania.

Another John Cena vs Kurt Angle match would be pretty cool if they went that direction, just saying. But Big Match John is now in the huge men's Survivor Series match on November 19th, this is going to be very fun.
