WWE News: John Cena comments on Daniel Bryan's Return to the Ring
What’s the story?
Excitement engulfed the wrestling community after news broke that Daniel Bryan was cleared for in-ring competition.
Many WWE Superstars gave Bryan a warm welcome back as an in-ring performer including his brother-in-law, John Cena.
In case you didn’t know
Bryan was forced to retire in 2016 after WWE doctors informed him that his head injuries were too severe to allow any further in-ring competition.
The former WWE Champion became the SmackDown General Manager once the Brand Split was resurrected and has been used in a non-physical capacity until this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.
The heart of the matter
Cena was interviewed by TMZSports about Bryan’s return to the ring and said that no one had worked harder and was more deserving of a return than him.
“That young man did everything possible to challenge the word “no.” And how ironic that he’s so well know for ‘YES! YES! YES!’ He turned no into yes and he worked his ass off to make that happen.”
After expressing his happiness for Brie Bella and Bryan’s family, Cena addressed the concussion issue that led to Bryan’s retirement and said that he went through every medical test and checkpoint to make his return a reality.
“He's gone through every single protocol, 10-fold. He's one of the healthiest people in WWE, and it just takes a lot of convincing of other minds that he's that healthy.”
Bryan was constantly dropping hints at the possibility of returning to the ring outside of WWE throughout his time as SmackDown GM, but that no longer seems to be the case.
With Bryan being cleared for in-ring action, many expect him to return to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana – the sight of his victory over Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 30.
What’s next?
Bryan was attacked by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens on SmackDown Live and was carted out of the arena.
He and Shane McMahon are expected to team up and take on Owens & Zayn at WrestleMania 34 in three weeks.
Author’s take
No surprise that Cena is happy to see Bryan back in the ring and hopefully we can get another classic bout between both men like the one they had at SummerSlam 2013.
