WWE News: John Cena fronted film 'Ferdinand' nominated for an Oscar
What's the story?
John Cena may have had a bad time at RAW 25 with Elias smashing a guitar over his back, but Cena will be much happier with the news that Ferdinand, a film in which Cena provides the voice for the main character, has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film.
In case you didn't know...
Last year John Cena announced his partial retirement from the WWE, stating that he could no longer maintain a full-time WWE schedule because of his increasing commitments in the film industry. Cena released 'Ferdinand' last year, and has another film called 'Blockers' coming out fairly soon.
The heart the matter
Because of this nomination, John Cena could become the first WWE Superstar to win a Motion Picture as part of the cast for 'Ferdinand', which would be quite the feather in his cap and the envy of fellow wrestling actors Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Batista.
However, the film will need to beat out stiff competition from Disney Pixar's 'Coco', 'The Boss Baby', 'The Breadwinner', 'Loving Vincent'. Personally, I feel that 'Coco' is guaranteed that Oscar as it's truly a wonderful film.
Nevertheless, Cena is understandably chuffed with the announcement, commenting on it on his Twitter page.
What's next?
We'll have to see what happens at the Oscars to see if Cena will pick up an award, but until then we can all continue to speculate what he'll be doing in the WWE now that the expected set-up for the expected Cena vs Undertaker match didn't happen at RAW 25 like people thought it would.
Author's take
If you haven't seen 'Ferdinand' yet I suggest you go out and give it a watch, it's a fun little movie with a great message. However, also make some time to watch 'Coco' (sorry Cena) as I was blown away by it.
