WWE News: John Cena gives update on his WWE future following WrestleMania "heel" turn
What's the story?
John Cena shocked the WWE Universe when he appeared at WrestleMania 35 to attack Elias during his performance, but what does this mean for the future of the 16-time World Champion?
In case you didn't know...
John Cena's attendance at WrestleMania wasn't confirmed ahead of his appearance, because he hadn't been seen on WWE TV since he was "injured" in the build-up to The Royal Rumble.
Cena was expected to be part of The Show of Shows, but given the fact that he has a number of commitments outside of the company, it was probably hard for WWE to ensure that he was available. Interestingly, John Cena was able to appear and seemingly turned heel as he returned as The Doctor Of Thuganomics.
The heart of the matter
Following his appearance at WrestleMania, John Cena opened up to Cathy Kelley about his future and how WWE was able to sell out WrestleMania without his name on the card, but he is now in the position where he has no idea what his future holds since he thought that WWE would always need him.
“For years my contribution on television has helped sell tickets to this event. This year that was not true. And it is still completely sold out and everyone is still completely on the edge of their seat. I’ve said this since the day I walked in the door – the WWE does not need me or any one individual, it needs the fans.
"I’m at a very good perspective with the fact that they don’t need me. They’re just fine without me. And I’m very grateful to be asked to be even a small part. So I’ll even break out the old school stuff just to be a part. I hope it meant a lot to them, because they’ll have no idea how much it meant to me.”
What's next?
John Cena wasn't part of the company's last Saudi Arabia show, but he could be part of the upcoming one if WWE can come up with a deal for him, since The Undertaker has already signed up.
