WWE News: John Cena makes a big statement on his possible retirement
What's the story?
John Cena was recently on the Edge & Christian's Pod of Awesomeness Podcast where they discussed several topics.
One topic they discussed was retirement considering the fact that Cena is now 40 years old. Cena was adamant that he has no intentions of retiring anytime soon.
In case you didn't know...
As Cena mentioned, he is currently 40 years old as of this past April. His storied career began just before the start of a new millennium in 1999 for Ultimate Pro Wrestling.
He held their championship for 27 days in April of 2000.
The heart of the matter...
Cena mentioned that he knows his body a full schedule of over 300 days a year for the WWE and admitted to having conversations with himself about "bowing out" when he does become a step slower in the ring because he doesn't want to "be one of those guys."
Within the interview, Cena also mentioned that in his career he had a longer run than he should have, but is very thankful for being able to perform at a high-level today.
He will still do anything that Vince McMahon asks of him, but now is the time to become more selective with his choices in the ring at this point in his career.
What's next?
John Cena takes on Roman Reigns in a grudge match this Sunday at WWE No Mercy live from Los Angeles, California on the WWE Network.
This WrestleMania-worthy match is a co-main event along with Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship.
Author's take...
In this day and age, it seems odd how some people are putting Cena and retirement in the same sentence. Ric Flair was in his prime at the age of 40 in 1989, and Chris Jericho is still doing amazing things in the ring at the age of 46 today.
I'm definitely not ready to see John Cena retire just yet. I am enjoying his work over the past few years, especially when he was doing the U.S. Open Challenge, and the feud with Roman Reigns has been great. I'm looking forward to this match on Sunday!
