WWE News: John Cena to appear at SmackDown Live this week
What’s the story?
John Cena has been announced to be appearing on Tuesday's WWE Smackdown Live, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
In case you didn’t know...
John Cena was originally drafted as a full-time SmackDown roster member back in the 2016 brand extension, however, with his days as a regular WWE star being numbered, WWE eventually decided in 2017 that it would be best for John to make appearances on both RAW and SmackDown. Tomorrow night will be John's first appearance on Smackdown since November.
The heart of the matter
John Cena has advertised to be appearing on RAW tonight for several weeks now, but his appearance on tomorrow's SmackDown was broken on Monday evening, not by WWE but by the Staples Center themselves, through their official Twitter account. They tweeted:
They also noted that there are ''great seats still available''. This is likely just a way for the venue to sell seats as SmackDown's live attendance hasn't been very good lately. This may also be another reason as to why John Cena has been added last minute.
What’s next?
John returns to Smackdown on tomorrow's episode on 27 February 2018. John Cena spoke about no longer having a clear path to a match at WrestleMania this year on RAW Talk on Sunday following his loss in the Elimination Chamber. We may see his WrestleMania feud's seeds being planted on tomorrow's show.
Author’s take
This is probably something that is needed. Despite big names like AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and more, SmackDown hasn't been pulling in the biggest of crowds as of late, often having to tarp the empty seat rows. John Cena is a late addition to SmackDown but just may help them pick up a bit, should he appear on more episodes between now and WrestleMania.
