WWE News: John Cena's return much sooner than expected
What's the story
John Cena experienced a pretty big loss to Roman Reigns at No Mercy. The idea behind Cena's loss in Los Angeles was to put Roman Reigns over as the new face of WWE so Cena could take a hiatus. But The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports there are actually plans for Super Cena to be back in no time.
In case you didn't know
John Cena and Roman Reigns had a pretty good match at No Mercy. Their twenty-two-minute encounter saw The Big Dog kicking out after four Attitude Adjustments and winning after a devastating spear.
After the match was over Cena sat in the ring for a moment to think about what he had just done. He received plenty of "thank you, Cena" chants and gave off an appearance that he was taking a hiatus from WWE.
Cena's emotional speech on Raw Talk following the No Mercy PPV also gave off the impression he was leaving for a while and the following night on Raw they brought up his hiatus on a couple occasions.
The heart of the matter
John Cena is a very busy guy but he made it very clear he was not retiring from WWE. He is receiving plenty of offers from Hollywood and other areas of the entertainment business. But The Wrestling Observer Newsletters reports the plans are for John Cena to be back at Survivor Series.
A November return for Cena is certainly earlier than most fans expected as he would only be missing one PPV, TLC.
What's next
John Cena is taking a break after No Mercy in order to film a movie and there will be many more of those extracurricular opportunities for Cena to come.
But if WWE keeps running the same kind of "I'm not retiring, but things are changing for me" angle with Cena everytime he leaves to do another project it could get boring.
Author's take
He might not be retiring, but John Cena and WWE could be preparing the WWE Universe for a day when Big Match John isn't around all the time. There might be plans to bring him back again for Survivor Series, but the next time he takes a break, it will last even longer.
