What's the story?

16-time WWE World Champion John Cena took to his official Twitter handle earlier today, in order to send a heartfelt message to fellow WWE veteran Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

In case you didn't know...

The Rock and John Cena initially ignited their rivalry back in 2011, when The Rock made his return to the WWE for the first time in almost 7 years, as the host of WrestleMania 27.

Within the next few months, Cena and Rock’s relationship turned into an intense affair, as the two men eventually squared-off at WrestleMania 28 in a match that was billed as "Once in a Lifetime” with The Rock ending up as the winner of the contest.

However, at WrestleMania 29, The Rock and John Cena once again went toe-to-toe with each other. This time, Cena came out on top and won the WWE Championship in the process as well, bringing an end to Rock’s eighth WWE Title reign.

The heart of the matter

As noted, The Rock is celebrating his 46th birthday today and several WWE and Hollywood superstars have gathered around in order to wish a very happy birthday to 'The People's Champion'.

However, one of the rather more notable faces to wish The Rock on social media is his former on-screen rival and friend John Cena.

In a recent tweet, Cena praised The Rock by labeling him as the standard bearer and an inspiration to many around the globe, including Cena as well.

In addition, Cena also referred to 'The Great One' as his boss, referring to his new lead role in the movie The Janson Directive, which is being produced by Rock's Seven Bucks Productions company for Universal Studios.

What's next?

John Cena's last appearance on WWE TV was at The Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia last week and as of now, it is still not clear what Cena's next role is going to be in the company.

Being a free agent, we can certainly expect the leader of The Cenation to appear on both Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live.

Author's Take

John Cena's birthday message to The Rock is definitely one of the most humble messages I've ever come across, given the fact that both Cena and Rock have already achieved a huge amount of fame for themselves.
