What’s the story?

16-Time WWE World champion John Cena was interviewed by Digital Spy recently. In the interview, the Cenation leader talked about his new movie Ferdinand and also touched upon topics such as his heel turn and his character.

In case you didn't know…

John Cena last appeared for WWE at Survivor Series. He had a light schedule in 2017 and prior to his Survivor Series outing, Cena had lost to Roman Reigns at No Mercy

Cena’s Survivor Series outing was nothing memorable as well. He represented Team SmackDown in the traditional Survivor Series Elimination match and was eliminated by Monday Night RAW’s Kurt Angle before he could make any impact.

He has, however, been pretty active with projects outside the WWE with Hollywood movie ‘Ferdinand’ being the most notable one.

The heart of the matter

In his interview with Digital Spy, Cena said that the fans have been asking him to turn heel for a long time now. He then went on to add that even if he turns heel, the fans will find something else to complain about.

“Over the years I've learned that, if I change, they'll just rag on me about something else. I'm never gonna please them and, at the same time, I would be turning my back on those that I care about. So it couldn't have been a better situation for me to be involved with this movie." Cena said.

Cena also admitted that it’s a challenge for him to let people know that there is more to him than his wrestling persona.

What’s next?

John Cena is reportedly advertised for an upcoming SmackDown Live Show in December. The show, which is scheduled to take place on December 30th will see Cena going up against AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal in a Triple Threat match for the WWE championship.

Earlier, there were also rumours about Cena working a match with Roman Reigns during WWE’s Live Event in MSG later this month.

Author’s take

Cena is spot on with his comments. While all of us want to see Cena turn, we would easily find another reason to complain about him when he turns heel. That is, unfortunately, the nature of wrestling fans.

We are never satisfied with what we get from the business and over the past few years, this nature has grown in magnitude as well.
