WWE News: John Cena to appear on Carpool Karaoke
What’s the story?
John Cena’s mainstream pop-culture appeal continues to grow. Tapout Worldwide is reporting on Facebook that John Cena will appear on an upcoming episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden.
In case you didn’t know...
Throughout the last year, John Cena has become somewhat of a part-time Superstar on the WWE roster. While he appears more regularly than the likes of The Rock, Cena has taken a deeper dive into entertainment ventures outside of the WWE. He’s hosted Saturday Night Live, been a guest host on Live With Kelly, hosted the Kid’s Choice Awards, and regularly appeared on NBC’s Today Show.
Cena also has a part in the Wall, which is set for release on May 12, 2017, and Daddy’s Home 2.
The heart of the matter
Cena will continue his plunge into the mainstream when he appears on James Corden’s popular comedy show, Carpool Karaoke. No air date has been announced for the episode as of yet.
Impact
As the months go by, John Cena continues to drift further and further away from the WWE. Eventually, his involvement will be severely limited, and the WWE needs to be ready. Cena has carried the company on his back for over a decade, and with now that he is phasing himself out of the picture, the WWE needs to find a replacement.
Author’s take
John Cena has carried the WWE for over ten years. He deserves the freedom and opportunity to do whatever he wants outside of the WWE. In addition, the 16 time World Champion succeeds at everything he does. His movie roles continue to get better, and he clearly feels comfortable hosting various events on television. His star power is moving beyond the squared circle. That is a good thing for the WWE, and they need to embrace it like they do with The Rock.
That said, I can understand why the WWE feels uncertain as they head into this period of rebuilding without John Cena. However, this isn't the first time they've been in this position. Hulk Hogan left, Stone Cold Steve Austin left, and The Rock left. It happens, and WWE always finds that next star. This time won’t be different.
