WWE News: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa reunite at NXT TakeOver: Phoenix
What's the story?
Two years ago at NXT Takeover: Chicago, Tomasso Ciampa attacked his tag team partner, Johnny Gargano and ended their highly beloved tag team, DIY.
In 2019, Gargano and Ciampa stood together at the end of NXT Takeover: Phoenix as champions and indicated that they have seemingly united.
In case you didn't know...
Gargano defeated Ricochet earlier tonight to win the NXT North American Championship, ending Ricochet's title reign at 161 days.
In the main event, Ciampa defeated Aleister Black to retain the NXT Championship in their second singles match.
The heart of the matter
Ciampa walked up the ramp at the end of his bout with Black and shouted "I win" as he made his way to the backstage area.
However, Gargano would walk out staring at his former rival, almost as if to challenge him, but the two would hold their championships high as the network special ended.
With their reunion at Takeover: Phoenix, the two will more than likely compete in tag team matches on NXT television going forward.
Gargano & Ciampa formed their tag team in 2015 for the inaugural Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and would team up regularly going forward.
Their biggest rivalry and some of their best matches took place against Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson of The Revival at TakeOver: Brooklyn II and TakeOver: Toronto.
The Cruiserweight Classic was the first time that Gargano & Ciampa showed signed of dissension when Gargano defeated Ciampa in the tournament with both men showing some aggression and anger towards each other.
The team got through their issues to win the titles, but it would all go downhill after losing the titles to AOP.
What's next?
Triple H had nothing but praise for Gargano & Ciampa's victories tonight and said he looked forward to what they do on the Road to WrestleMania.
Will this be a temporary reunion between Ciampa & Gargano or is DIY back together for good?
