WWE News: Johnny Mundo talks about leaving WWE
What’s the story?
As reported by Wrestling Inc, former WWE superstar Johnny Mundo has spoken out about the reasons behind him leaving WWE and how it happened. Mundo, who was known as John Morrison during his time with the company, spoke about the issue during an appearance on Colt Cabana’s Art Of Wrestling.
In case you didn’t know...
Mundo has been making waves on the independent scene ever since leaving World Wrestling Entertainment in late 2011. He’s been wrestling for a number of top promotions including Lucha Underground, however, it was his tenure in WWE that most fans remember.
During his run, he became Intercontinental Champion, in addition to challenging former tag team partner The Miz for the WWE Championship at the start of his final year with the company.
The heart of the matter
Mundo had the following to say about how he left WWE and the reasons why.
"I wouldn't say I quit or was released. At the end of 2011, I just didn't resign. I let my contract run out. They offered me a couple of things. They didn't offer me what I wanted." Morrison continued, "I wanted to make a movie and I didn't want to work 250 days a year."
Mundo went on to talk about his lack of creative freedom in the company.
"That's one of the reasons I left. I was tired of just kind of being on that express train, whatever you want to call it, so to speak. It just sort of shoots forward and you have no creative autonomy, no control over your time, and there's not much time for side projects or family and friends."

What’s next?
There’s every chance that Mundo could decide to go back to WWE one he’s finished filming the upcoming season of Lucha Underground, but the talent pool is a lot deeper than it was when he left. That isn’t to say he won’t find similar success, but given how the landscape of the company has changed he may have to adapt his work if he wants to be a big time player.
Author’s take
It’s not surprising to hear Mundo, formerly known as John Morrison, speak out on his time with WWE. He’s already spoken in detail about his trials and tribulations, so if anything this is just him reiterating what we already knew.
