WWE News: Kane reveals surprising reason why he wrestled at Crown Jewel
What's the story?
The death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of the Saudi Arabia government made headlines world over, with many companies boycotting the Middle East country.
But, WWE, who had signed a huge deal to host several live shows at the country, did not pull out their second PPV of 2018, Crown Jewel, which attracted a lot of flak.
One wrestler who was a part of the show was Kane, who wrestled in a tag team match alongside The Undertaker, to face Shawn Michaels and Triple H.
In case you didn't know...
The Crown Jewel PPV, held on November 2nd, 2018, was mired in controversy after the murder of Khashoggi. WWE condemned the killing of the journalist but went ahead with the show, which also saw the return of Hulk Hogan, who had weeks prior to the show, been reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame.
The finale of the show was a tag team match featuring the team of Kane and The Undertaker, against Triple H and Shawn Michaels, which was won by the latter team. Triple H also suffered an injury which put him on the shelf for months.
The heart of the matter
Kane took part in an AMA on Reddit where he was asked a host of questions on WWE as well as politics.
A Reddit user asked Kane why he wrestled at Crown Jewel and Kane had an interesting reply.
The Reddit user's question was: "Can you explain why you took part in Crown Jewel despite the controversies surrounding it?"
Kane gave an interesting reply to the fan's question: "Because WWE donated $100,000 to the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation which was arranged long before the controversy. I made a commitment to our local first responders and I wasn't willing to break that."
What's next?
We aren't sure when WWE's next PPV in Saudi Arabia is, but we are sure that the deal between Saudi Arabia and WWE will stretch for the next 9 years.
