WWE News: Karl Anderson comments on "taking a bullet" for AJ Styles on SmackDown Live this week
What's the story?
In the main event of SmackDown Live this week, it was AJ Styles reuniting with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to take on Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev and Aiden English. The morning after Anderson suffered two brutal Kinshasa's at the hands of Nakamura, one-half of the "Good Brothers" responded on Twitter.
In case you didn't know...
Shinsuke Nakamura effectively turned heel at WrestleMania 34 after his WWE Championship match against AJ Styles. After the match, Nakamura held the title and got down on one knee as to present it to AJ. As AJ was celebrating with the belt, Nakamura would hit him with a low blow.
The heart of the matter
This morning, Anderson would retweet and respond to a video posted by the WWE on Twitter showing him stepping in front of a Kinshasa and then taking another one while Styles watched.
There were many reasons why Anderson did what he did, and as you can see from this tweet, they run much deeper than just protecting Styles for his championship rematch against Nakamura this Friday at the Greatest Royal Rumble.
Anderson and Styles' relationship goes back to New Japan Pro Wrestling as a part of the Bullet Club. Anderson joined the faction in May of 2013; while AJ replaced Prince Devitt (Finn Balor) as the leader in March of 2014.
What's next?
Anderson, Styles, and the rest of the SmackDown Live roster are en route to Saudi Arabia for the Greatest Royal Rumble; which takes place Friday, April 27th, live on the WWE Network. While it is not officially announced, it may be safe to expect that Anderson is going to be a part of the 50-man Royal Rumble Match.
Author's take
I thought it was a tremendous moment on SmackDown Live last night showing how much Anderson has Styles' back, and just how devious Shinsuke Nakamura can be. I really hope this feud drags out to SummerSlam because I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg here.
