What's the story?

Kassius Ohno becomes the latest currently contracted WWE Superstar in NXT to make an appearance for an independent wrestling promotion as he's just been announced as the latest participant for Super Strong Style, a huge tournament held by British based UK promotion and frequent WWE partners, Progress Wrestling

In case you didn't know...

Previously Drew McIntyre, Oney Lorcan and even Apollo from the main roster are just some of the WWE Superstars who have been granted permission to appear for independent promotions outside of their WWE obligations.

The heart of the matter

Super Strong Style 16 is a three-day long professional wrestling tournament hosted by British based promotion Progress Wrestling and its previous winners have been Will Ospreay, Tommy End (now known as Aleister Black) and Travis Banks

This year's tournament boasts a veritable whos-who of professional independent wrestling with Angelico, Doug Williams, Keith Lee, NXT star and WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne, Zack Sabre Jr, 205 Live's Mark Andrews, Flash Morgan Webster, Chuck Mambo, Chris Brookes, Jordan Devlin, TK Cooper, Joey Janela, David Star and NXT's Tyler Bate.

What's next?

There's one more entrant still to be announced but even without knowing who that final entrant will be it'll be hard to pick a winner out of that line-up. Kassius Ohno will be hoping to improve on the semi-final loss to Aleister Black in 2016.

Author's take

Ohno was also allowed to appear for ICW last year, who have a similar partnership with WWE, in a losing effort to Joe Coffey. The former 'King of Wrestling' was also the Superstar to wrestle Keith Lee at WWE's WrestleMania Axxess event so it's clear that he has a special deal with the WWE that allows him to do all sorts of weird and wonderful things which is great for fans of wrestling.
