In case you didn’t know…
Kavita Devi (real name—Kavita Dalal) is a protégé of former World Heavyweight Champion and Hollywood/Bollywood actor The Great Khali.
Devi is known by her ring names Kavita and Hard KD, and has performed for CWE (Continental Wrestling Entertainment), a promotion run in India by Khali. Devi signed a developmental contract with the WWE in October of last year.
The heart of the matter
Kavita Devi explained how she faced a hard time after being married off in 2009 from her native of Jind, Haryana to Uttar Pradesh. She pointed out that her husband lives by an old male-dominated ideology and is angered when she is recognized by the public and achieves more success than him.
Devi added that her in-laws expect her to do nothing more than household chores—jhaado, pocha, bartan (*Hindi for brooming, swabbing and washing utensils*). Devi returned to her parents’ house, where villagers pressured her parents to get her married off. She praised her parents for their support and revealed how she intends to work hard for them in WWE—
“My parents supported me in my journey and did not listen to people. They took loans to fund my training. Now, I will work hard to fulfill all their wishes.”
Furthermore, Devi narrated that while living in a hostel as a student, she once didn’t receive any pocket money, and badly needed a toothpaste but was too shy to borrow some from anyone; owing to which she stole Rs. 15 from below an idol in a temple and promised to keep it back once she has money.
What’s next?
Kavita Devi is expected to commence her training at the WWE Performance Center this month.
Devi has previously stated that she intends to follow in the footsteps of other WWE Superstars of Indian origin such as The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal en route to the top of the WWE.
