What’s the story?

In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Kenny Omega opened up on a myriad of topics.

Omega asserted the significance of the Golden Lovers storyline. Besides, “The Cleaner” also expounded upon seizing big opportunities over the course of his professional wrestling career thus far.

In case you didn’t know…

Kenny Omega is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestling performers of his generation.

Omega and Kota Ibushi joined forces back in 2009—forming the “Golden Lovers” in Japan’s DDT Pro-Wrestling—however, the group went their separate ways after Omega left the promotion in 2014.

The heart of the matter

It was in January of this year that the Golden Lovers reunited in NJPW at The New Beginning in Sapporo, as Cody kicked Omega out of Bullet Club—attacking “The Cleaner”, only for Ibushi to come out and save Omega.

Addressing the Golden Lovers getting back together, Omega elucidated that the team’s storyline is about two wrestlers who shared their dreams on their way up, became fast friends, and are now reuniting at the top of their game.

Furthermore, Omega explained how he’s seized big opportunities that have come his way in the pro-wrestling business thus far:

"It's about taking advantage of the moment when you're presented with the opportunity. I have a vision for what I want wrestling to be, and I was fortunate not just to have the opportunity to show my talents at the right time, and not just to have the right opponents, and not just to have the knowledge that the front office has faith in me, but also the good fortune not to get hurt in the middle of all this. I've been blessed to have this chance to make wrestling a little more what I want it to be."

What’s next?

The Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) compete against The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) at the NJPW Strong Style Evolved event at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California on March 25th.

Author’s take

Kenny Omega is perhaps one of the most crafty performers the professional wrestling world has ever seen.

Omega understands the subtle art of weaving character work and mat-skills together, so as to put forth a product that’s loved by fans the world over.

The Golden Lovers are an excellent team, and here's hoping they have a memorable feud with The Young Bucks.
