WWE News: Kevin Owens aims to become second WWE Universal Champion
On Sunday at SummerSlam, Finn Balor beat Seth Rollins to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion. Unfortunately, Finn had to relinquish his title immediately the next night. The reason as for why he was made to relinquish his title was because during his match with Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam, Finn injured his right shoulder when Seth power-bombed him on the barrier, and because of this Finn will have to go through surgery, and thus, will be out of action for at least six months.
Now the Universal championship is once again vacant. Seth Rollins assumed that he would be given the title on the basis of a technicality but before anything could happen out came all the top Superstars of Monday Night Raw. Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Big Cass, and Roman Reigns, all wanted a shot at the title. Thus, Stephanie McMahon announced that all the superstars will have to go through “Knockout” style matches, and by the end of the show whichever four superstars prevail they’ll face each other in a Fatal-4-Way match on next week’s Monday Night Raw.
The superstars who became eligible for the Fatal-4-Way match are:
- Kevin Owens (def. Neville)
- Big Cass (def. Rusev)
- Roman Reigns (def. Chris Jericho)
- Seth Rollins (def. Sami Zayn)
Kevin Owen has been a fan-favorite ever since he made his debut on NXT Takeover: R Evolution. Owens even though he’s a heel has been loved by hardcore wrestling fans around the world for his epic promos and fantastic wrestling skills. Owens has previously been a two-time Intercontinental Champion and one-time NXT Champion on NXT. Prior to WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV everybody was convinced that Owens was going to win the Money in the Bank briefcase. But, sadly that didn’t happen, Dean Ambrose won the briefcase and later cashed it in on Seth Rollins to become the WWE World Champion.
This time next week, I will be Champion of the Universe. @WWE

I personally think that this is the right stage to make a guy like Owens the Universal champion because he’s clearly worked for it, not saying that the others didn’t. But, people genuinely love Owens’ character and making Owens the champion will just shake things up a bit, and will give the creative a fresh storyline to work with.
What do you guys think? Should Owens become the next WWE Universal Champion? Or should another Superstar win the gold belt? Please, tell us your thoughts by writing them in the comments below.
