WWE News: Kevin Owens posts a throwback photo of him and Sami Zayn on Instagram
What's the story?
Sami Zayn rescued Kevin Owens from the wrath of Shane McMahon at Hell in a Cell, allowing the Prizefighter to pick up one of the biggest wins of his career. Owens posted this picture on his Instagram account, which was probably taken at a Ring of Honor show.
In case you didn't know...
Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens' careers began in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at roughly the same time in 2002 and 2003. They wrestled as a tag team for the International Wrestling Syndicate before moving up to bigger independent promotions such as Chikara, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and Ring Of Honor.
When the Prizefighter made his NXT debut in 2017, he even referred to Zayn as his best friend. However, Owens turned on the former El Generico after the latter defeated Neville to capture the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: R-Evolution. The two then proceeded to have many memorable matches in WWE.
The heart of the matter
It is a throwback photo of Kevin Steen and El Generico. Based on Steen's shirt, this was most likely from a Ring Of Honor event. One could say the photo represents Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn returning to best friend status for the first time since KO's debut in NXT.
If anyone was questioning the authenticity of Kevin Owens' Instagram account, it is legitimate as he linked his posts to his verified Twitter account as seen below:
What's next?
AJ Styles may have foreshadowed what is next for Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Shane McMahon on Talking Smack after the pay per view. Styles said that if Shane McMahon needed someone to help in the fight against Zayn and Owens, he would be in the 47-year-old's corner.
Expect further progression on this story on this week's edition of SmackDown Live.
Author's take
On October 03, 2017, I tweeted about my desire for Zayn to turn heel and speculated that my podcast co-host would think I wasn't of sound mind.
I still didn't expect it to happen, which made the execution so brilliant. When I watched Shane dive off the cage live, I didn't notice anyone pulling Owens off of the table. I thought he did the exact same thing Undertaker did at WrestleMania 32.
After the move to Smackdown Live, I thought Zayn would start to get the push he deserved, but it never happened. This heel turn is the jolt he needed, and it will make for very interesting television on the blue brand.
