WWE News: Kevin Owens says his work with AJ Styles wasn't his best
What's the story?
Kevin Owens seems to always be one-upping himself in the ring to continue her ascent to the top. Owens' recent program with Shane McMahon received rave reviews and every story "The Prizefighter" went through before that point seemed to lead him that direction.
But Owens recently revealed on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness that he doesn't consider his matches with AJ Styles his best work, but everything was a building block to lead to that huge crescendo at Hell In A Cell.
In case you didn't know...
Kevin Owens has been on a role since signing with WWE. The top indie prospect and ROH veteran came into NXT and held the NXT Championship in no time.
Ten months later, Kevin Owens was on the main roster feuding with John Cena. It all happened pretty quickly for Owens, but his journey is just beginning.
The heart of the matter
While Kevin Owens spoke to Edge and Christian, "The Rated R Superstar" expressed how much he enjoyed watching Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles. While Owens appreciated the fact Edge enjoyed those matches, he doesn't feel he was doing as good of a job as he could.
But the former Universal Champion went on to explain that once his feud with AJ Styles transitioned into a rivalry with The McMahons, things certainly picked up. Thanks to Still Real To Us for the transcription.
"You (Edge) say you enjoyed the series of matches with AJ and I'm glad you did and hopefully a lot of people did as well but I don't know if I can say that I did, to be honest. I don't know if I was putting out my best stuff at the time and once that ended and I transitioned into that thing with Shane [McMahon] I did feel that working with Shane is a big deal and Vince, you know throwing himself into the mix -- I knew that you know, that's as big as it gets."
What's next?
As Kevin Owens carries on in his career, all of his hard work is finally paying off in big ways.
Owens' feud with Shane McMahon cemented himself in the foundation of WWE's deep talent pool so they can continue to build around someone like Owens, who will certainly be a tentpole for the company for years to come.
Author's take
Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles was enjoyable because it featured two of the top wrestlers in WWE going toe-to-toe. But it only meant the start of even bigger things for Owens.
Hopefully, as time goes on "The Prizefighter" will find himself in more big matches so he can continue to prove why WWE should be known as The Kevin Owens Show.
