WWE News: Kofi Kingston talks about equal representation
What's the story?
Kofi Kingston, alongside Becky Lynch, spoke about representation being so important when responding to a question about Xavier Woods' tweet.
In case you didn't know
Kofi Kingston did the impossible and pinned Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 to win the WWE Championship. He is also now a modern-day grand slam champion. He is also the first African American to win the WWE Championship in quite a while. As you all may know, Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Championship was a happy accident.
Had Mustafa Ali not gotten injured, Kofi Kingston may not have been in this position. In the WWE Universe, some would say it was a long time coming for the WWE Superstar who has been in the WWE for over eleven years. Perhaps, it was just his time and KofiMania was long overdue.
The Heart of the Matter
Kofi Kingston has probably has had his greatest success with The New Day and it's been made very clear that he owes his success to them. During his interview with ESPN, Kofi Kingston was asked to respond to a tweet by Xavier Woods.
Ive never felt emotions like this in my entire career. @TrueKofi did it. We all did it. Tonight a previously closed off part of the @wwe universe realized that they can be champion too & that representation is so much more important than people realize. Congrats Kofi. We love you.
Kofi Kingston responded by saying
He Hit the nail right on the head with what he just said...representation is so important...To have people who look like us..To be able to look at the screen...and see that it's possible...to do great things..and even people in general who have just struggled...
Kofi Kingston elaborated that his hard work for the last eleven years has paid off. He never had a big main event push for the WWE Championship and he's just can't believe that his childhood dreams have come true!
What's next?
Kofi Kingston will most likely show up with Xavier Woods and Big E on SmackDown Live with the WWE Championship.
