WWE News: Kurt Angle on Vince McMahon's reaction to fans rejecting Jason Jordan
What's the story?
In an interview with CBS Sports, RAW General Manager Kurt Angle talked about the Jason Jordan storyline going on and the WWE Universe's response to Jordan. While many argue that the push was too soon or that the storyline is a failure, Angle couldn't disagree more.
In case you didn't know...
From mid-2017, a storyline began with mysterious text messages to Kurt Angle and how that something could "ruin" his life. In retrospect, that seems really stupid because having an illegitimate son wasn't exactly going to ruin his life.
Regardless, Jordan was moved over to RAW and began his singles career. It became clear that WWE had big plans to push Jason Jordan into that main event level. However, fans began to quickly sour on Jordan, making sure to boo him every chance they got.
Jordan's character has, however, been taking a different direction, with the former American Alpha member becoming whinier and relying on Kurt Angle more on-screen. From the direction of things, we might very well be seeing a Jordan heel turn.
Angle said that his hope from this storyline is that it culminates in a match between the two.
The heart of the matter
Angle talked to CBS Sports about the fan rejection towards Jordan and how several fans can't stand him:
You know what's crazy? Everything that the fans have gone through the last three or four months, most of the fans can't stand him. A lot of the fans are saying, 'He's getting the wrong kind of heat because we really don't like him for real.'
Angle stated that Vince McMahon even knew how fans were going to react, so things seem to be going according to plan
Everything that has occurred up until now, Vince [McMahon] already knew how they were going to react, so this has been working. As many fans will say 'it's not working' and 'get rid of him' or 'I'm not buying it,' now that the storyline has started to span out and developing further, it was a good fit. Jason is doing a great job, and he has carried the storyline very well. We will see where it goes from here but it should be pretty intriguing
When asked if Jordan's rejected babyface character could be compared to The Rock when he was Rocky Maivia, Angle agreed. He stated that he firmly believes people will accept Jordan as being a main event level talent down the line.
What's next?
Jason Jordan is currently feuding with Samoa Joe and the seeds seem to be slowly planting for a heel turn. Hopefully, WWE has huge plans for The Gold Blooded superstar down the road.
Author's take
Jason Jordan undoubtedly has all the tools to be a main event level talent. A heel turn could help freshen things up for Jordan and could add a whole new level to his character and the Kurt Angle illegitimate son storyline.
For all we know, this entire storyline could end up being a huge success and elevate Jordan to the next level. Hopefully, it doesn't backfire!
