WWE News: Kurt Angle on WWE's Match of the Year for 2017
What's the story?
On his latest Facebook Questions and Answers' Post, RAW General Manager Kurt Angle was asked about which WWE match-up he thought was the best from 2017.
When posed the question, Angle revealed that his pick for Match of the Year was from the Survivor Series PPV back in November.
Read on below to find out who was in this one-on-one contest.
In case you didn't know...
Kurt Angle has been busy since returning to the WWE after a decade away from the company.
The Olympic Gold Medalist was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame (by John Cena) upon coming back.
Then just a few days later, Angle became RAW GM on the RAW after WrestleMania 33, which was back in April of this year.
Angle's biggest storyline so far as GM was the revelation that he was WWE Superstar Jason Jordan's Father (this is for TV purpose of course, Angle is not Jordan's dad in real life).
The former multiple-time World Champion has wrestled for the company twice after being brought back earlier this year, both in multi-man matches at TLC (October) and Survivor Series (November).
However, Angle has yet to have a singles feud or match after restarting with the company, and there is believed to be concerned over whether he can still wrestle one-on-one matches
It is speculated that Kurt could be going up against Triple H at WrestleMania if he is able to do so. Triple H turned on Angle at Survivor Series, stealing the win for Team RAW as his own.
The heart of the matter
Kurt Angle said that his favourite WWE match of 2017 was the Survivor Series Champion vs. Champion, RAW vs. SmackDown bout between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar.
Angle went as far as to label the match between WWE Champion Styles and Universal Champion Lesnar as a 'classic' (exclamation point and all).
Who can disagree with that answer?
What's next?
Kurt Angle will continue his on-screen role in WWE as RAW GM. We will figure out in the coming months if WWE will book him in a match for WrestleMania, possibly against Triple H.
It was announced on the latest episode of RAW that Brock Lesnar is set to defend his Universal Championship against Kane and Braun Strowman at the Royal Rumble PPV in January.
Whereas on SmackDown, it is still unknown who WWE Champion AJ Styles is scheduled to put his title up against.
You can guess it will be a Phenomenal match regardless.
Author's take
Kurt is so right. Lesnar vs. Styles was a classic.
Fans reacted to it so positively at the time, as although Lesnar won as expected, he still made AJ look so good in defeat.
Despite this reaction, it may take some time for the WWE Universe to realize how amazing it was.
Lesnar does not do that type of putting over for everyone, just look at his victory over Braun Strowman at the WWE No Mercy, where Strowman, who had built so strongly by WWE, was made to look awful by the Beast Incarnate.
Therefore, the effort he put in against Styles made the contest special.
It was a sign that WWE finally saw AJ Styles as a top guy.
We never expected the two to ever face off, and their two totally different wrestling styles made the match so intriguing.
