WWE News: Kurt Angle reveals he would've liked to have won his WrestleMania retirement match
What's the story?
Legendary wrestler Kurt Angle had a fairly terrible WrestleMania weekend after losing to Baron Corbin on 'The Grandest Stage of Them All' and then getting laid out by a debuting Lars Sullivan on the Raw after WrestleMania. Now 'The Olympic Gold Medalist' has revealed he would've liked to have won his last match in WWE.
In case you didn't know...
WWE received quite the backlash when Baron Corbin was announced as Kurt Angle's last opponent despite Corbin making the most sense storyline-wise. Many assumed we'd get some kind of swerve with a new opponent replacing Corbin on the day, but that didn't happen.
To make matters worse, Angle then ended up losing to 'Baron Corbin' at WrestleMania which completely stunned the New York crowd into silence, and once again the decision drew the ire of the WWE Universe, who couldn't understand it.
The heart of the matter
Now Angle has opened up on his match at WrestleMania during one of his regular Facebook Q and A's and he has revealed that he would have preferred to win his match against Baron Corbin.
Honestly? My Wrestlemania 35 match. I would have liked to go out with a win, but I understand why it didn’t occur. Many people believe that I should have had a different opponent. Maybe. Maybe not. But my argument as to why it should have been Corbin is pretty strong. As a HOFer and Legend in WWE, I came to my final match last Sunday. It was my retirement match. As a legend or HOFer or- whatever you want to call me, my job is to leave the WWE by doing the honors for a younger talent.
Angle goes on to explain why he understood the decision and, like a real professional, why he was fine with 'going out on his back'
I did that. I would have loved to have won, but I don’t think I would have properly played my role if I did. You leave the company better than it was before you came." Angle noted. "I think I was able to do that by losing to Corbin and then getting laid out on Raw the next night to Lars. It may have felt wrong, but it was the right thing to do. Agree to disagree."
What's next?
Angle is likely set to transition into some sort of backstage role with WWE now that his in-ring career is over
