WWE News: Kurt Angle talks about the ‘You s*ck’ chants he receives from the WWE Universe
What’s the story?
In a recent interview with WETM NBC Elmira, Kurt Angle provided his perspective on the ‘You Suck’ chants every time he makes an entrance in the WWE.
In case you didn’t know…
The path for Kurt Angle’s return to the WWE began to take shape when he was announced as an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017. He joined that elite club at the HOF ceremony held during the WrestleMania 33 weekend in Orlando, Florida.
On the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw, WWE Chairman named Angle as the new general manager of the show. The moment his music hit and ‘The Wrestling Machine’ appeared on the stage, the fans began the ‘You Suck’ chants which used to be a feature of his WWE entrances in the 2000s.
The heart of the matter
Angle told WETM NBC Elmira that while he was a ‘heel’, he tried to tell fans not to chant ‘You suck’ but realised that it increased after that. They also did it when he became a ‘babyface’ which meant that they loved doing it. Here’s what he said:
“I spent five of my six-and-a-half years as a heel. I told the fans ‘It’s getting to me, stop doing it’ and the more I said that, the more they did it. So when I was babyface, they still did it and they love doing it.”
‘The Olympic Hero’ explained that both he and Vince McMahon tried to change this but they couldn’t. Kurt, however, acknowledged that the WWE Universe do it out of respect for him while admitting that it sounded great with his entrance song. The Raw GM was quoted as saying this:
“It’s one of those things that, Vince tried to change it, I tried to change it, it’s just not going to happen. It’s one of those things now that the fans do it out of respect and it sounds cool with my song.”
What next?
Kurt Angle has been in control of Raw for just three weeks so far but has already made some great matches on the show so far. It remains to be seen how long the WWE will allow him to retain this role.
Author’s take
We can only hope that being the Raw general manager is only a gimmick to keep Kurt Angle engaged until the WWE decides on getting him back to in-ring competition.
